RollMates Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 20, 2026
RollMates develops your photos like film and lets you share rolls with friends ("mates"). This policy explains what information RollMates uses, why, and the choices you have. In short: your photos are processed on your iPhone, you choose what to share, and we don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps.
Your photos
- Developing happens on your iPhone. Photos you import are processed on your device. Your full-quality photos stay on your iPhone and are not uploaded to us.
- Sharing a roll uploads smaller copies of the photos you choose (up to 2048 pixels), with camera details (like camera model and settings), the date each photo was taken, the roll's name, film, note, and place name if you added one. Shared copies are made fresh from the image, without GPS coordinates or other hidden metadata. Only your mates can see a shared roll, and you can unshare it at any time, which deletes the copies from our servers.
Your account
Signing in is optional; you can develop rolls without an account. If you create one, we store:
- your email address (to sign you in; it is never shown to other people),
- your name, username and profile photo, which your mates and people you invite can see,
- your mates, mate requests, and anyone you've blocked,
- reactions and comments you leave on mates' rolls, which the roll's owner and their mates can see.
Films you publish
If you publish a film you made, its name, description, tags, settings and your username become public so anyone using RollMates can find, save and remix it. You can unpublish it at any time. Films you keep private are backed up to your account so you don't lose them, and are visible only to you.
Location
RollMates only uses your location if you choose to tag a roll with where it was taken. The place is saved with the roll on your iPhone. If you share the roll, only the place name (like "San Francisco, CA") is shared, never your exact coordinates. You can turn off location access at any time in the Settings app.
Apple Intelligence
Any features that use Apple Intelligence run on Apple's on-device model. What you type and the photos it looks at are processed on your iPhone and are not sent to us.
Notifications
If you allow notifications and sign in, we store your iPhone's notification address with your account so we can tell you about mate requests, new rolls from your mates, and reactions, comments and mentions on rolls. Notifications are delivered by Apple. Signing out removes this iPhone's address from your account, and you can turn notifications off at any time in the Settings app.
Reports and safety
If you report a person, a roll or a film, your report (and your username) goes to the RollMates team. To check a report, the team can view the reported roll. We may hide rolls, remove films or close accounts that break our Terms of Use.
Feedback
When you send feedback in the app, we receive your message and, if you choose, a screenshot and an email address to reply to. To help fix problems, feedback also includes the app version, iPhone model, iOS version, the screen you were on, the last error message the app showed, a random identifier for your installation, and your username if you're signed in. Only the RollMates team can read feedback.
Crash reports
If RollMates crashes or freezes, iOS gives the app a technical report the next time you open it (Apple's MetricKit), and the app sends it to us so we can fix the problem. A report says what went wrong and where in RollMates' code, with the app version, iOS version and iPhone model. It doesn't include your photos, your account or your username; it's tied only to a random identifier for your installation. Only the RollMates team can read crash reports.
Paid features
RollMates may offer optional purchases, like RollMates Cloud (a private, full-quality backup of your rolls). Purchases are handled by Apple; we never see your payment details. If you use RollMates Cloud, the photos you back up are stored privately and are only accessible to you.
How we store and protect information
Account data, shared rolls, published films, feedback and crash reports are stored with our hosting provider, Supabase, and protected so that people can only see what they're allowed to (for example, only your mates can see your shared rolls). Notifications are delivered by Apple. We don't use advertising or third-party analytics services, and we don't sell or rent your information.
Deleting your information
You can delete your account at any time in Settings › Delete Account. This permanently deletes your profile, mates, shared rolls and their photos, and your films from our servers. Rolls on your iPhone are not affected; delete the app to remove them.
Children
RollMates is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and for significant changes, let you know in the app.
